About the Event
After the murder of George Floyd in 2020, and former Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order #203, hundreds of Police Reform plans were developed and submitted. Yet, as we have seen, so little has changed. Executive Order #203 confined ‘reform’ to law enforcement agencies alone and did not include examination of policing models, police union power, legislative and independent oversight boards, violence-interrupting programs or alternatives to policing. True police reform must go beyond law enforcement agencies themselves, which E.O. #203 did not do. It turned out to be merely a publicity stunt.
